What player count is recommended?

Sewer Sanctuary is playable for up to 5 (a dungeon master and 4 players) but was initially written for a duo-game set up (a dungeon master and one player). In that case, the adventurer will be joined by their trusted animal companion, supporting them in their adventure in and out of combat. Animal companions can be trained and will bravely execute tasks if successfully communicated by their handler :)

Can I play this with my kid?

Totally! Though it depends on your child. Sewer Sanctuary has some spooky themes (ghosts, trapped animals and grim figures) but nothing graphic. If they enjoy eerie stories with a bit of mystery and puzzle, it’s a great fit. For younger players, we recommend adding an animal companion. It enhances the experience for the kid and can help guide them through puzzles if needed.

I’m not a creative GM. How much experience do I need to have?

Sewer Sanctuary was built to focus on beginner DMs while still offering an exciting game for more experienced DMs and players. Is this your first game to run? No problem. It holds your hand where needed, offers read-aloud descriptions, clear guidance, and tools to keep things moving. It’s perfect for DMs who want structure but still feel like they’re telling a unique story. Yet, we do recommend that the DM has played (as a player) at least one TTRPG before, to be familiar with how RPGs typically flow and what is expected.

What do I need to play?

• Digitally: The Scenario-, Enemy- and Rulebook PDF
• Other materials: At least 6 six-sided dice (D6), pencils
• Printed: Character sheets and map cards
• Optional: Handouts can be shown digitally or optionally printed out as well (ink-friendly print-pdfs are provided)

How long does it take to play?

Most groups finish Sewer Sanctuary in 2 to 3 sessions of 3–4 hours each. You can stretch it out with more roleplay.

Is this combat-heavy or more story-driven?

It’s a mix of both! Sewer Sanctuary mostly focuses on exploration and puzzle solving, yet also includes character interactions and combat encounters.

Can I use this in my own setting?

Definitely! While the module is set in its own distinct environment and story, including its own simple ruleset. it’s easy to drop Sewer Sanctuary into any world or system.
